iPod Touch to Be Merged With iPhone 5 Product Line?

We have just received information that the iPod Touch is being phased out. The tip comes from what we believe to be someone in a position to know. Indeed the evidence we have seen so far already seems to suggest this maybe correct:

  1. No iPod Touch in the back to school promo.
  2. Unlocked iPhones now out in the US.
  3. iOS 5 Betas are not showing any signs of iPod Touch hardware
  4. iSupply suggests that the iPhone 4 costs $188 to build.

So what would this mean? Well it would mean cheaper iPhones for all, and every purchase of this new device would place a potential Apple phone in everyones hands. Apple’s dominance of the smartphone market would expand drastically. This would no doubt allow people to be free of phone contracts increasing the ‘buy in’ by the consumers, allowing them to update yearly at a lower price point and free of contract tie in’s. It would also aim to simplify the Apple product line which is something Apple always aims to achieve.

We hope our source is right, this would rock!

Real Racing 2 HD Dual Screen AirPlay Demo

Engadget has published a video demonstrating Real Racing 2 HD’s support for Apples new AirPlay mirroring feature which will be coming in iOS 5 in fall. Whilst you can mirror your iPad display with an Apple TV some game developers are going Wii U esque and displaying one thing on the iPad and another on the TV. Enjoy the video below.

iOS 5 iPad Demo

This is a great YouTube video demonstrating iOS 5 on the iPad. It shows off some of the nice new multi touch gestures, this looks like a great improvement coming in fall this year.

Apple Patent Reveals Potential ‘Find My iPhone’ Improvements

Apple has filed a patent application listing some new security features that are most likely going to be making their way into their ‘Find My iPhone’ service. There are some great new additions, though others are slightly more dubious as to their effectiveness. The new features include:

  • The ability to let users selectively protect files on a handset instead of locking the entire phone.
  • A scrambling feature to prohibit access to sensitive data without having to remote wipe. Unscrambling would be available when the handset is retrieved.
  • A remote recording feature that uses the mic on the iPhone capture the voice of the thief and his or her surroundings. (Dubious)
  • Remote messaging feature that would warn the thief of any recording or location tracking activity. (Dubious)
  • An enterprise-friendly feature that prohibits access to sensitive functions or apps on the missing handset.

Obviously this is a Patent filling and is, therefore, not a future product roadmap. There are some great ideas in this filing. Here is hoping they make it into the service.
